What Does this Ultrasound test Result Mean?

I had an ultrasound done and just got the results back. Obviously they are recommending a biopsy but is there any indicators just in ultrasound that could possibly mean a malignancy.? FINDINGS: Slight increase in size of a well-demarcated hyperechoic solid nodule in the right lobe of thyroid gland since last exam. At this time further evaluation with biopsy is recommended. On the current exam this measures 1.2 x 0.9 x 1.16 cm. Heterogeneous echo pattern seen in both lobes of thyroid gland. Right lobe of thyroid gland measures 4.9 x 2 x 1.9 cm in left lobe of the thyroid gland measures 4.5 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm. There is a nodule in the left lobe of thyroid gland that measures up to 8.6 mm in maximal diameter. This is a complex cystic nodule. Followup regarding this is suggested. IMPRESSION: 1. Biopsy of the slightly enlarging solid nodule in the right obe of thyroid gland suggested. This measures over 1 cm in maximal diameter on the current exam. 2. There are 2 nodules in the left lobe of the thyroid gland. 1 of the nodules measures up to 8.6 mm in maximal diameter and this is a complex cystic nodule that contains a solid component as well as a focal calcification within it. A followup regarding this is suggested

Hello,

It is very difficult to co relate the data of ultrasound findings without any of the personal, family history and complaining symptoms. Though with the information available, I can quote that possible issue with cancer thyroid is there to great extent as there is focal calcification also within, without wasting time period, immediately approach for biopsy of the nodule for further management guidelines. I would like to revert back before biopsy report as per your wish.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
